Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney 2014

Short+Sweet Sydney is the largest festival of 10 minute plays in the world!

Our lucky number thirteen Short+Sweet Sydney theatre festival is nearing an end, with our Gala Finals and Variety Gala remaining. We showcased 160+ brand new plays from Australian and international writers, put together by the best up-and-coming and established directors and performed by veteran actors and fresh new talent. The Gala Final is the best 12 plays from the sseason held at Seymour Centre's York Theatre.

GALA FINALS + VARIETY GALA

With the main season over, we just have our prestigious Gala Finals remaining. This is truly the best 10 minute theatre event in the world, with the top 12 plays from our season of 160+.

Short+Sweet Theatre Gala Finals: Fri 21 Mar, 7:30pm - the best of S+S Theatre

This show features the Judges' Choice winner from each week, the equal winners of the People's Choice vote and the two winners of the Wildcards season.

Masterclasses

  1. Short+Sweet Sydney is offering a Series of FREE Masterclasses to our participants and supporters. These are held weekly at King Street Theatre (formerly Newtown Theatre) on Thursday nights during our festival, from 5:30pm-6:45pm. 


    The Masterclasses are a series of professional workshops presented by industry leaders across a range of disciplines including Writing, Directing, Acting, Casting and Producing. There is no need to register - feel free to turn up on one of the allocated days/times and enjoy hearing from Sydney's theatre experts!


    Directing Masterclass - with Lex Marinos


    Thu 20th Feb 2014, 5:30pm-6:45pm


    Lex is known on television for Kingswood Country, and recently, The Slap and has appeared in many local drama and comedy productions. As a director, Lex has worked in all media, including films An Indecent Obsession, television series Bodyline (also co-writer), Embassy, A Country Practice, plus documentaries. Lex was Director of Carnivale, NSW’s multicultural arts festival, and also directed one of the segments of the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony. He was awarded OAM for services to the performing arts, and a Centenary of Federation medal.


    Publicity Masterclass - with Geoff Sirmai

    Geoff Sirmai, director of Sirmai Arts Marketing (formerly Watchdog Communications) is a communications guru with 25 years’ media experience. A former consumer advocate and journalist/presenter/reporter across all media - including ABC TV and radio, Channel 7, Choice magazine and the Sunday Telegraph - he also boasts a professional performing arts background that includes hundreds of stage, screen and concert platform appearances. Geoff brings to his work a unique appreciation of arts publicity 'from both sides of the footlights'.
