Script Entry 2009
SCRIPT ENTRIES FOR SHORT+SWEET SYDNEY 2009 ARE CLOSED
There are absolutely no restrictions on entries for Short+Sweet. You can write about anything - politics, dating, family, passion, monsters, zombies, religion in any style - drama, comedy, tragedy, romance, thriller.
The only restriction is your play MUST be 10 minutes or less !
Anyone may enter – from anywhere in the world! You don’t have to be an experienced writer. We are looking for the best scripts, no matter whether they are written by seasoned professionals or first time playwrights.
WHAT YOU COULD WIN ?
* A full production of your play as part of Short+Sweet 2009 which runs from January 13 to February 20, 2009 at the Seymour Centre and Newtown Theatre in Sydney.
* $20,000 in prizes and professional development opportunities
* A chance for your play to be recorded to be telecast on Movie Extra.
THE RULES
* The script MUST be 10 minutes or less in running time. As a general guide most 10 minute plays are between 1600-2400 words in total word count. (For examples of suggested layout and length of 10 minute plays visit www.alexbroun.com and click on 10 minute plays)
* Participation in Short+Sweet is on a VOLUNTARY basis. Writers do not receive royalties for performances of their play but they are in with a chance of winning cash prizes and professional development opportunities (as mentioned above).
* Writers retain all copyright and performance rights on their plays. They only give permission for their play to be performed at the specific Short+Sweet Festivals they enter.
* You can write on any subject matter in any style. The only restriction is the play must be 10 minutes or less.
* You don’t have to be an experienced writer - absolutely anyone can enter. We are looking for the best 130 10 minute scripts, no matter whether they are written by seasoned professionals or first time playwrights
* The script must not have had a public performance in Sydney (NSW, Australia) before.
* Entry is $15 per script. Plays are assessed anonymously please do not include your name or address on your script. If you do we will not be able to consider your entry.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Every script entered will be read and assessed by an industry panel of script assessors. Entrants will be notified whether their script has been shortlisted by November 15, 2008.
Short+Sweet directors will then select the script they want to direct from the short list and then cast their plays from the Short+Sweet auditions.
The works selected for Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 will be performed between January 13 to February 20, 2009 at the Seymour Centre or Newtown Theatre in Sydney.
During the performances a judging panel and the audience will vote for their favourite works which will then be performed at the Gala Final of Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 at the Seymour Centre on Friday, February 20, 2009.
These works will be recorded to be broadcast on Movie Extra and be in with a chance of winning $20,000 in cash prizes and development opportunities.
By entering Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 your play will also be given free entry into Short+Sweet Brisbane 2009.
