SCRIPT ENTRIES HAVE NOW CLOSED
You don’t have to be an experienced writer. We are looking for the best scripts, no matter whether they are written by seasoned professionals or first time playwrights. There is no restriction on style or theme, just remember you are writing for the theatre, not TV or film.
Scripts are assessed by a panel of judges using Short+Sweet Theatre’s highly ac-claimed three-stage assessment process. A shortlist of the best works is given to Short+Sweet Theatre directors who choose one play to direct. Actors then audition for the roles. Short+Sweet Theatre Canberra 2009 will present 10 plays in full performance at the Canberra Theatre Centre Courtyard Studio and 10 Wildcards at The Street Theatre.
WHAT YOU COULD WIN
1. A full production of your play as part of Short+Sweet Theatre Canberra 2009 which runs from September 2-5, 2009 at the Canberra Theatre Centre Courtyard Studio and The Street Theatre, Canberra;
2. Various prizes and professional development opportunities;
3. A slot as an Independent Theatre Company in Short+Sweet Theatre Sydney 2010 for the best production winner.
RULES
1. Your play MUST be 10 minutes or less in running time. As a general guide most ten minute plays are between 1600-2400 words in total word count. We suggest you read it aloud and time it.

(If there are not enough entries, Short+Sweet Theatre reserves the right to invite writers from elsewhere to participate.)
3. Participation in Short+Sweet Theatre is on a VOLUNTARY basis. Writers do not receive royalties for performances of their play but they are in with a chance of winning prizes and professional development opportunities.
4. Writers retain all copyright and performance rights on their plays. They only give permission for their play to be performed at the specific Short+Sweet Theatre Festivals they enter
4. The script must not have had a public performance in Canberra before.
5. Entry is $10 per script. Plays are assessed anonymously so please do not include your name or address on your script. If you do we will not be able to consider your entry. You may submit as many scripts as you like but only one play per writer will be performed.
