Aims + Goals
There are three main aims of Short+Sweet DEVELOPMENT, SHOWCASE, EXCELLENCE
DEVELOPMENT
To encourage the development of the crafts of acting, directing, theatre-making and writing by aspiring and emerging theatre artists through creating a ten minute theatre work in a supportive (professional) creative environment with technical support provided by skilled industry practitioners. Established theatre artists are also welcome to participate in Short + Sweet as working with them in the creation of a ten minute theatre work, aspiring and emerging theatre artists can gain considerable knowledge and insight into theatre crafts and may in turn raise the level of work created at the festival.
SHOWCASE
Through participation in Short + Sweet actors, writers, directors, theatre-makers and Independent Theatre Companies can showcase their skills to a broad range of industry practitioners and through this foster professional career opportunities in the performing arts, film, TV and radio. Artists can also showcase their talents to the local theatregoing community and thus develop audiences and support for their future theatre work.
EXCELLENCE
Short + Sweet believes in the validity of the ten minute theatre form and that ten minute theatre works can stimulate, move and entertain audiences as effectively as longer theatre forms. Through an open call for scripts, general auditions and interviews with directors and Independent Theatre Companies Short + Sweet uses a vigorous merit based process to assemble a season of high quality ten minute theatre which incorporates a broad range of theatrical styles. Through the presentation of these works Short + Sweet aims not only to develop audiences for the ten minute form but to develop audiences for all theatrical forms.
GOALS
Additionally each Festival has three clear goals:
1. For the participating artists to have a positive experience
2. For the audience to have a positive experience
3. To create good theatre
