CHECK BACK SOON FOR 2009 LAUNCH DETAILS

Following the successful model of Short+ Sweet - which has become in a few short years the biggest little play festival in the world - Short Sweet+Dance is an opportunity for established and emerging choreographers & dancers to combine their creative talents to present 10 minute dance works.

The season will present twenty works over two consecutive weeks (ten works per week) at the newly refurbished Newtown Theatre. Over forty works were short - listed, and - via a panel of industry professionals including Mark Cleary (Short + Sweet Founder/Producer), Cathy Murdoch (Ausdance NSW) and Kay Armstrong (Artistic Director/Pulse8) - the top twenty works were selected.

An impressive line up of choreographers are programmed to feature their work - Jodie McNeilly, Martin Del Amo, Paulina Quinteros, Sarah Boulter, Gabby Rose, Paul Cordeiro, Marko Panzic, Aviva Sheb’a, Angela Hill, and the Dirty Feet Collective…just to name a few!

In keeping with the Short + Sweet manifesto, participants of Short Sweet+Dance, are eligible for sponsored awards such as Most Outstanding Performance, Most Outstanding Achievement in Choreography and People’s Choice.

Short Sweet+Dance will feature over eighty professional artists performing to an estimated audience of over one thousand people. We also have the Wildcard program – a developmental opportunity for established choreographers presenting a new work, and a chance for future choreographers to unearth their potential. The Wildcard line-up is demonstrative of just how many talented, Independent choreographers exist within Sydney alone. Please come and see these fantastic works on show!

Festival Director, Olivia Ansell, believes this event is something that our independent dance community will truly benefit from:

“For established dance creators, it is an opportunity to show their latest work while for our emerging artists, SS+D provides a launch pad for young choreographers to demonstrate their talent. This exposure can often play a pivotal role in advancing an emerging choreographer’s career.”
