DIRECTORS – SHORT+SWEET SYDNEY 2009
Registrations for directors for Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 are now closed.
HOW TO ENTER
To Register as a Director for Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 simply fill in the online form by clicking here and attach a summary of your Theatre Background/CV indicating your relevant experience.
Please note you do not have to have directed for the theatre before to direct at Short+Sweet Sydney 2009. Short+Sweet has given many directors their first opportunity to direct in the theatre.
Registrations can only be accepted from people residing in Sydney, New South Wales or nearby areas. Participation is on a voluntary basis so no compensation is available for travel and accommodation for participating in Short+Sweet.
WHAT YOU COULD GET
Short+Sweet offers fantastic opportunities for Directors to meet and work with new peers, direct a new play, try out new ideas and have your work supported at an established venue.
Short+Sweet Directors also work with experienced artistic and production professionals, while not needing to worry about all of the energy normally required for producing, publicizing, marketing and ticket sales.
For artists new to directing for the theatre Short+Sweet provides an opportunity to work at a higher level of technical expertise, hone skills with experienced theatre professionals and showcase their work in professional venues – the Newtown Theatre and the Seymour Centre.
During the performances a judging panel and the audience will vote for their favourite works which will then be performed at the Gala Final of Short+Sweet Sydney 2009 at the Seymour Centre on Friday, February 27, 2009.
These works will also be recorded to be broadcast on Movie Extra and Directors whose production are selected for the Gala will be in with a chance of winning $20,000 in cash prizes and development opportunities.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
We will contact you in mid-October should we require to interview you in regard to directing for Short+Sweet.
For more experienced Directors, or those who have Directed in Short+Sweet before, you may be offered an opportunity to direct in Short+Sweet without needing to attend an interview.
All Directors who apply will be contacted by Monday November 3rd in regard to whether they have been selected to direct in Short+Sweet Sydney 2009.
Those directors selected to direct in Short+Sweet will then be given a selection of scripts to choose from and will be invited to attend the Short+Sweet auditions in late November/ mid-December to cast their play.
From there, Directors organise rehearsals and start rehearsing their plays for the Festival which will be held from January 13 to February 20, 2009 at the Seymour Centre and Newtown Theatre in Sydney.
