Fast+Fresh Dance 2010
What is Fast + Fresh?
Fast + Fresh Theatre + Dance Festival will showcase the finest theatre and dance performances by Melbourne’s youth. The Festival follows a similar format to the adult festival Short + Sweet (Australia, NZ, Singapore). Short + Sweet is the biggest 10 minute play festival in the world and Gala performances have been staged at the Sydney Opera House, the Victorian Arts Centre and the Esplanade in Singapore. Fast + Fresh expands on this foundation to create a vehicle for young writers, directors, choreographers and performers; the future of Australian theatre and dance.
How does it work?
Theatre performances must be 10 minutes or less in duration and dance performances 5 minutes or less. Playwrighting, choreography and all performances must be by young people who are 18 years of age or younger. Teachers and parents are permitted to offer artistic direction and guidance.
Submissions are now open for the 2010 season at The Loft Theatre, at Chapel off Chapel. Once your performance has been accepted into the program, you will be allocated a Heat. Fast + Fresh will present three nights of theatre and one night of dance, followed by a Gala night to showcase the best performances of the week and present prizes to the judging panel’s selection of outstanding performance makers.
How do we get involved?
Complete an application form and email or post it back to us. If you are submitting a theatre performance you may send us a draft of your script, or a proposal outlining the themes and concepts, or theatrical style/s you intend to work with. If you are entering a dance performance, we would like a written outline of your ideas and (where possible) photographic and/or video documentation of work of a similar style and standard to the piece you intend to perform for Fast + Fresh.
Who should enter?
Secondary school students who love writing, directing, choreographing and performing. This festival is well suited to those studying VCE Drama and Dance and offers valuable performance opportunities for drama ensemble tasks and choreographic dance tasks. It is also an extremely rewarding experience for those in years 7-10 who have the drive to present their work in a professional theatre context.
